A Tale Of Two Cities: Charles Dickens

Hey Bookworms!! Sorry for not being regular!! But here I am at last , with an amazing book to review and share with you guys!! A Tale of Two Cities, a major classic written by Charles Dickens, is a legend. So here it goes:

The story revolves around the time of the French Revolution taking place in many parts of France, from 1789 to 1799. A simple man, Charles Darnay is accused of being a spy from the French, who is giving important information to French people. A witty and intelligent lawyer, Sydney Carton saves him in the court and they become great friends. Sydney has an acute drinking problem, so he considers himself as a failure. Then they both fall in love with the same woman, Lucy Manette. She marries Charles Darnay, but Sydney continues to love her after that and often visits Charles and Lucy’s daughter. But one day, Charles is captured by the French revolution leaders, and is to be slaughtered for a crime he has not done. Will Sydney try to save him?

The story was very gripping, and a very simple and subtle tale of Love, Betrayal and Sacrifices. The legendary author, has explained every emotion in a beautiful manner. A must read for readers looking for something very touching as well as inspiring.

George’s Secret Key to the Universe: By Lucy and Stephen Hawking

Hey guys!! I am back with another book review and this time it is on a book written by the world-famous scientist Stephen Hawking and his daughter Lucy Hawking. The story goes like this:

SYNOPSIS(My Version)

George was an ordinary boy brought up by his parents who are farmers, and they own a large vegetable patch right in front of their house. His life changes one day, when Eric and his daughter Annie move into the house next to George’s. Eric is an amazing scientist, and he owns COSMOS,the world’s most POWERFUL COMPUTER!!! COSMOS can show people right into OUTER SPACE and also send people into Outer Space, right from their living room!! He can show how a star is born, how Earth was created, to people, LIVE from Outer Space, through a window right into their living room!! George finds it all very magnificent and fascinating. Eric makes George promise that he would not tell anyone about COSMOS. But when George accidentally tells his horrid teacher, Dr. Graham Reeper, about COSMOS, it is bound to get into wrong hands. With Eric lost into Outer Space, only George and Annie can save the day!!!! That is where the story takes a very interesting turn. Only one question arises in your mind…”Would George be able to do it?”

The story was spell-binding, as well as educative, and as it was written by world-famous scientist Stephen Hawking and his Daughter Lucy Hawking, the book also included many pictures and interesting facts right from OUTER SPACE!!!  Reading this book was a complete delight. I highly recommend this book to readers who are looking forward to books based on Space Science or Cosmology, along with an enriching story line. The Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan

Hello guys!! I am back with another boom-bastic Book Review, but this time,it’s for teens or tweens. Geronimo Stilton was recommended only for kids, but this time I have something for higher standard readers too. So, this series features a “DEMIGOD” or a “HALF-BLOOD” boy named PERCY JACKSON. Demigods are children of Greek gods and a mortal (normal human) which means that one of their parents is a Greek God. In Percy’s case, his father is POSIEDON, the God Of The Sea. All Demigods need to attend a particular academy known as “Camp HALF-BLOOD” where they learn how to protect themselves from the Evil God “KRONOS” and his army. Percy’s best friend is GROVER, who is a SATYR or a person with the upper body of a MAN and the legs, horns and tail of a GOAT.And next in the list we have Percy’s Best friend and later Girlfriend ANNABETH, the daughter of ATHENA, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom. ANNABETH is just like her mother, intelligent and strong from inside.

Percy’s mother is a mortal, or a normal human being, and she raises Percy as one too. Percy does not know anything about the existence of his father as a Greek God, and also does not know that Camp HALF- BLOOD exists. He is an ADHD and Dyslexic, thus has problems in reading and writing. He always gets into trouble at school.Amusingly, he can both read and write Greek without any difficulty, though he never learnt it. One day, his wheelchair ridden Latin teacher,Mr.Brunner gives him ball point pen that changes into a magnificent sword,RIPTIDE, on clicking it.A monster, disguised as a teacher tries to kill Percy, but his Latin teacher was successful in rescuing him. Then Grover tells him all the truth, about he being the son of the Great Greek God POSIEDON, and that he now needs to go to Camp HALF-BLOOD.At first he does not believe it, but then in the end, Percy agrees to go to Camp HALF-BLOOD, and he discovers that his actual Demigod Identity is PERCEUS JACKSON. When he reaches, Camp HALF-BLOOD, he realises that his Latin teacher is actually CHIRON, a centaur, with the upper body of a man and the lower of a horse.CHIRON is the helper of the activities director at Camp HALF-BLOOD.He trains the young demigods at camp to be wonderful heroes in their lives. At camp, Percy realises his love for swordfighting, and discovers his power: his wounds heal if exposed to water(as his father is the lord of sea and water) also, Percy can control the waves, and the current of the sea and can make water do anything his heart wants. After a little time at the camp, Percy realises that he has a prophecy after him, stating that one day he will be the one to destroy The DARK LORD KRONOS. From there starts a spell-binding journey, with many mysteries, suspenses and a lot to discover.

The Series is quite enjoyable if you stick on with it and read it till the last book in the series. It has Puns, jokes and subtle wit, alongside a gripping storyline. The book is highly recommended for people who are interested in reading Adventure and Fantasy stories. The best part of it is that it is written in a very mirthful language that is easy to understand. Some of the books in this series are:

Must read for a fantastic experience!!! Sure to amuse you!!! It always has an amicable ending, and the author surely loves to give new surprises. The series has also been adapted into a movie franchise.

RECOMMENDED AGE GROUP: 10 years – 14 years

RATING: 4 stars out of 5 stars

Thanks alot for sticking till the end of such a long description, and I sincerely hope you liked the BOOK REVIEW, and will eagerly wait for my next post. Thanks a ton!!

Geronimo Stilton: Cat and Mouse in a Haunted House..

Lets stgeronimo1art with the Geronimo Stilton series. The series features a “mouse” named Geronimo Stilton, who can “talk” , “walk on his two legs” and lives in an apartment, which he fondly calls a mouse-hole. He lives in a country called Mouse Island, and is the Chief Editor of the best known newspaper of his country, called Rodent’s Gazzete, and by default, he is shown to be a scaredy-mouse, or what you simply call a complete coward,or simply a mouse who would easily get terrified, sometimes even by his own shadow .This mouse is very different from mice you usually see stuck in mouse-traps near your house.

The other main characters in this series are:

Thea Stilton: Geronimo’s younger sister, she is just the opposite of her brother Geronimo. She loves taking risks, going for adventures and anything exciting has her in!! She is also a travelling freak, and loves to travel whenever she gets the time. She
works as a Special Correspondent for her brother’s newspaper, Rodent’s Gazzete.

Trap Stilton: He is Geronimo’s cousin, and very different from him.He is passionate about only two things in the world:cooking and teasing or playing pranks on his cousin Geronimo. He absolutely loves to cook, and aspires to open his own restaurant sometime in the future. Trap loves to play pranks on Geronimo and tease him because he is a calm, composed, and you can say a lazy person.

Okay, so the story goes something like this:

Lost in a cold, dark and mysterious forest, Geronimo is scared off his tail!! When it starts to rain, and his car stops dead in the middle of the forest, where he is alone and without shelter. He finds shelter in a nearby deserted castle. At first everything
seems perfectly normal, but later he finds out that the castle is haunted, that too by cats!! What will a fraidy-mouse like Geronimo do?? There begins a fur-raising experience, with twists and turns at every word.

Well, the story was nice, with lot of exciting mysteries and suspense, complete with a hilarious ending, but I seriously think that this book could have used a better language to demonstrate their amicable expressions. The author has used many slangs and not literally adopted language, such as jaw-bustling-rattlesnakes! The book is highly recommended for people who have just started off with reading, such as kids in——Grades 1 – 4. The story does NOT carry any possible moral, which does not make it a good or decent read for starters.

Recommended Age Group: 5 – 9 years

Rating: 2 stars out of 5 stars

Thanks to all of you for reading through such a long description!! I hope you liked it and will eagerly await my next book review, which I
will be posting shortly. Thanks a lot once again!!
